Usually the first week of a new semester is rough getting transitioned into the new swing of things but this semester was a whole lot different!! Some things I can post here but some things I can’t but in the end of things, I am GLAD that week is over.
Last night as the 4 domemates |
On Saturday night, we found out that one of our domemates
could no longer stay on the island and was leaving on Sunday. Thursday morning I was a nervous wreck
because my little sister was having ACL surgery. I know it is a routine surgery but I was
still worrying the entire day until she was out of the operating room and
awake. On Thursday afternoon, we were
running errands at lunch when 2 men approached us saying the car Taylor bought
from a former student was never paid in full so they demanded our information informing
us they were going to follow us, find out where we live, and steal the car
back. We had no idea the situation with
the previous owner (nor what was the truth).
So after this verbal harassment and threats we spent almost 2 ½ hours
dealing with on campus security to try to find out who these men were and how
to go about the situation. Thursday
evening we came back to the dome after class to find 3 inches of standing water…the
dome had flooded. It took about 3 hours
to get everything cleaned up and luckily there were only a few casualties. Friday, after a day of LONG classes, we ended
up spending almost 4 hours at the local police department filing a report, brining
in the person who harassed us, and trying to figure out a solution to the situation. We are still sleeping a little better at
night after talking out the situation with the gentleman but I am still looking
over my shoulder once in a while. In addition to the major events, my good $300
sunglasses also broke this week.
With all this going on we were not able to enjoy Semester Olympics
this week so Saturday we caught up on studying all day and then were excited to
go to Mr. Ross at night. Mr. Ross is a
make beauty pageant that contains 4 different categories (talent, Only in Saint
Kitts, Professor Impression, and Animal Planet Show) and is judged by our
professors. The venue was MUCH better
this year and I enjoyed the acts by the contestants this year too. Nick, our 2nd semester
representative, did amazing and got truly robbed by placements. The difficult thing about Mr. Ross is supposed
to be a relaxing event where you can kick back, drink some beer and enjoy the embarrassment
of the Ross Men but you still have to maintain some professionalism because your
professors are still in attendance. The professors
will remember who was the drunk fool, etc….just something for people to think
about. Sadly there were many people in
attendance that were becoming WAY too drunk and WAY too sloppy. Believe me…I am NO grandma (shit I am was in
a sorority for 4 years) but there is a time and place for it…and not in front
of your professors. This is just my
opinion!!
Sunday we dropped our
domemate off at the airport and said our final goodbyes. I will truly miss here and hope she stays in
touch!! Sunday night we went out to
dinner to celebrate Sam’s birthday and then we all went to bed EARLY.
Needless to say I am happy to say GOODBYE to week one!! I
have a quiz on Friday for anatomy this week but besides that I hope it is a
calm relaxing week. In addition, beach
volleyball starts this week…LETS GO SETS ON THE BEACH!!!
