Ross has its FIRST Drive-Thru

Maybe I will not die of hunger on the island!! The first drive thru is coming to Saint Kitts.  I do not know many details about it but it is called Bobsy’s Bar and Grill and I think they found their best costumer.

After fighting with my insurance for about 2 weeks, they finally said they will NOT pay for many of the tests I need to go to school.  UGH, one rabies shot is $198 and I need three.  I am going to go broke paying for the vaccines I need to go to vet school!!

I feel like the past few weeks have been filled with work, work and more work!!  But at least work pays the bills!!

Rain??

I couldn’t help but post this picture.  The island of Saint Kitts is beautiful 98% of the time but there is the 2% of the time that a downpour of rain does happen.  Let’s just hope that I am not in a hurry to go somewhere and can wait out the storm in a dry building!! I know some students carry around an emergency poncho or small umbrella in there school bag.  I might be looking into investing in one of these for sure after this picture!! 3 months to day until I leave!!!

Housing on the island

I received information today about housing on the island.  I don’t see why I cannot just pitch a tent on the beach and live in paradise for my time on the island.  I guess the school is concerned I wouldn’t be able to get an internet connection out there.  But in all seriousness I have officially submitted my housing for first semester.

All first semester students must live in the on campus housing.  The only exceptions are if you are married and/or have a kid that you brining to the island.  I filled out the application today with my preferences.  You can have your own studio apartment, a 2 bedroom setup or a 3 bedroom setup.  My first preference was my own studio apartment.  I have had some GREAT roommates in college and some not so good ones.  I don’t need the stress of a bad roommate on top of it being my first semester at vet school in another county. Part of the application asked:

Do you smoke?

Can you have a roommate that smokes?

Do you drink alcohol?

Can you have a roommate that drinks alcohol?

Well, there is no way in hell I smoke nor could I ever live with someone that does.  My lungs get very irritated whenever I am around smoke and I get massive headaches even the smell of cigarettes.  Next 2 questions were interesting to answer….I know there is a catch somewhere.  Of course I have a drink here and there but not a huge ragger.  So I said, Yes to both but let’s just hope I don’t have a roommate.   I also requested a downstairs room (let’s face it, we all know how injury prone I am and I will bound to sprain an ankle or something and not be able to do stairs well).

So what is next??

My next goals are start working on my good code of conduct letter from the police.  I cannot get it too far in advance because they expire.  I also need to figure out if my insurance is going to pay for my vaccines I need or not.

What am I stressed out about?

Financial aid and how that works!! I filled out my FASHA and now I am not sure what I need to do from there.  Will they contact me? Do I need to contact them? Will they give me enough money?  Oh, and who is they??

Guess my day off tomorrow will be filled with stuff for Ross.  How do students do this when they are in school and studying for finals?? I would be STRESSED!!

Here is a link to an actual tour of a dorm room at ross for those that are curious!!

My Poor Neglected Blog!!

Where does time go? I can’t believe it is the middle of May.  I leave for school in exactly 101 days.  I have been using my “free” time to get things accomplished.  I went to the dentist and eye doctor.  Everything went fine.  I have a doctor’s appointment Thursday for blood work and such.  I am fighting with my insurance for them to pay for a few of my medical things I need for vet school.  I need a titer test for hepatitis A and B, a tetanus shot, rabies test, TB, and RPR.  Just thinking about it hurts my arms!!

I am still gathering items to take over to the island (I sure hope there is enough room in our suitcases).   Trying to make a list of everything I need to take over.  Maybe I will post it here so people can add things that I have forgotten.  I guess if I do forget something I can have it shipped to the island or just wait 15 weeks until I come back.

I have sent my flight information into the school so they can make arrangements on their end.  When we arrive on the island, we are met with our orientation leader and are taken to our housing.  Maybe I should warn them about the amount of bags I will have?? I arrive on the island Saturday afternoon.  I have the rest of Saturday, Sunday and Monday to relax, get my room set up, and collect items I need.  Then Tuesday through the following Sunday is packed with orientation activities.  The activities (that I know of) include tours of various tourist spots on the island, zip lining, getting your banking/driving “stuff” set up, and a whole lot of food and a few drinks.  I do all of these activities with my orientation group which is composed of an older student and fellow students with our family members that have come with us.

I am started to get really excited and nervous to leave.  I know I am going to miss things around home: family, friends, dogs shows, AXO, events, etc but I know there are new things waiting for me on the island.
